It's been about 8 months since the last update we did to UI Guideline. Since then, we had several problems trying to figure out the path we were going to take with the project.
We had many meetings, everyone involved in the project, a lot of back and forth, various guys demotivated by the amount of work UI Guideline required, and the little return it generated.
We have always believed that UI Guideline has all the potential to fulfill its mission: "To become the Definitive Guide for any UI Dev/Designer"... and that’s why, analyzing it very well, and seeing all the tools that have emerged to date (the AI revolution, GPT-4V, v0 .dev, etc.), we believe that we can take advantage of all this, to not only revive the project, but take it to the next level, being able to complete 100% of the components that we have listed to date in UI Guideline.
That's why I want to share with you, the beautiful news, that we are already working on UI Guideline v2...
It’s a slow and exhausting work, since we aim to give it a more modern style (since 2020 that UI Guideline was born, to date the trend in Web design has changed a lot), it is also necessary to review again each of the Reference Systems, and analyze in detail which of them is still in force, active and cared for by its founding team.
We have a more or less clear Roadmap to date (surely something can change along the way), but if we dedicate the necessary time, I think we can meet the dates and everything we want to include in this new version... I’ll share with you what we have in mind:
Roadmap v2
We are going to leave UI Guideline v1 as it is, we’re not going to give it more maintenance, BUT it’ll remain active until v2 is stable and has the same or more than v1 currently has. In other words, what you see now in UI Guideline will be called "Legacy", and at the same time we will build v2 in a subdomain or subcategory: e.j. v2uiguidelinecom, or uiguidelinecom/v2
It's essential that we update our reference list. It no longer seems logical to include Bootstrap 4 or Hubspot Canvas, for instance, in our Reference System list. We're in 2023, and just as several systems have become obsolete, new ones have risen in their place. Here, I leave you the updated list of references for 2023: https://link.excalidraw.com/l/5M4i1z9oaht/2Be9A63OXZt
We’ll redesign the whole look and feel of v2 in order to give it a modern touch... here are some previews:
Redesign UI Guideline v2 We will restructure all the data again, since that is one of the biggest pains that v1 produces, not only “curing” the data browsing System by System, but putting it into the database is very annoying, since each component has dozens of relationships between several tables, making the process of storing each component tedious.
Once we have several components 100% ready, we’ll start giving closed access to each of you (giving priority to those who paid for lifetime access in v1).
The idea is to add one set of components (2 or 3) per week... so that in a period of about 2 or 3 months we will have 100% of the components (it would be a dream come true for us 😍).
And finally, when UI Guideline v2 has all 42 components defined, we have in the backlog some features to take advantage of the advances in AI and to be able to develop tools that make the Dev/Designer's job of defining a component even easier. Very interesting things are coming; I'm sure of that.
We are very excited about this new stage in UI Guideline, if it weren't for the love and support that you show us month after month... this resurgence would not have been possible... the simple fact of having started UI Guideline a month ago, and seeing how the graph keeps rising... fills us with joy and motivation to make UI Guideline an even more valuable project.
You will surely receive an email from us every week (I promise I won't bother you with my emails... you have total freedom to unsubscribe if you don't want to know more about UI Guideline... we will understand).
We will be sharing the small milestones every day on X/Twitter from @uiguideline and @serudda so you don't miss any details of the evolution of v2.
I hope you have a nice week, see you in the next delivery 👋
Happy definition of UI components 🍻 —Serudda
Looking forward for this tools 🔥
